I attended my first Jokers Canada comedy show this weekend, and it was an absolute blast! A colleague recommended it, so I checked out the Coquitlam performance at the Evergreen Cultural Center on Friday—and wow, what a fun experience. The concept is fantastic, and the artists were incredibly talented. I had such a great time that when I learned there was another show the following night in Port Coquitlam, I couldn’t resist. I reached out to Jokers Canada, and not only did they confirm that each show is completely different (no repeated jokes from one night to the next!), but they were also kind enough to offer me a discount as a thank you for attending again.
This time, I took my family to the Terry Fox Theatre, and once again, it was a wonderful time. It felt amazing to laugh out loud for two nights in a row! On Friday, Ola Dada was my favorite performer, while Alex Carr hosted with great energy. I also saw Byron Bertram, Jacob Samuel and Marlene Swidzinski, who were great. On Saturday, the lineup featured another great emcee, Chris Griffin and stand up comedians Myles Anderson, Yumi Nagashima (our favorite that night), Charlie Demers as the headliner, Cassidy Furman (though her set was a bit too short), and DJ Jeremy Baker spinning tunes between acts.
The only downside I noticed was the lack of a bar at the Terry Fox Theatre and the long lines before the show. In contrast, the Evergreen Cultural Center allowed you to grab drinks both before and during the performance, which added to a fuller experience.
Anyway, if your town is lucky enough to get one of those Jokers Canada nights, just go – I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a good laugh…or not 😉
